Atticus Dean Mitchell was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on 16 May 1993 – his zodiac sign is Taurus and he holds Canadian nationality. He is an actor and a musician, perhaps still best known for his portrayal of the supporting character Benny Weir in the adventure fantasy comedy film “My Babysitter’s a Vampire” in 2010 which was directed by Bruce McDonald and which starred Matthew Knight and Vanessa Morgan. It follows a teenager who, after hiring a girl to take care of his little sister, finds out that she is actually a vampire. The movie was nominated for three Directors Guild of Canada Awards and a Gemini Award for Best Dramatic Mini-Series or TV Movie, while Atticus was nominated for a Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series.

Childhood and education

Atticus was raised in Toronto alongside his three siblings Caleb, Fox, and Clarissa by their father who is a football coach at a local high school, and their mother who is working as a secretary at a local telecommunications company. Clarissa is also pursuing a career in acting, while she is also a film director and producer, who is known for her roles in the short crime film “Tuesday, 10:08am” released in 2017 and the drama series “I, Terrorist” which was shot in 2019.

Atticus became interested in sports while attending elementary school, but after being noticed by a scout while attending Malvern Collegiate Institute (high school), he started acting in plays performed both at school and a local theatre, and decided to focus on his acting career. Atticus actually made his debut TV series appearance in 2009, when he portrayed Carlos Martinelli in three episodes of the family comedy series “How to Be Indie”, which starred Melinda Shankar and Marline Yan, and which is about a girl learning how to handle teenage life. The series was a success, winning seven awards and was nominated for four others.

He appeared as The Teenage Boy in the episode “Chapter Six” of the comedy drama series “Living in Your Car” in 2010, and was then invited to star as Benny Weir in the action fantasy comedy series “My Babysitter’s a Vampire”, which was based on the eponymous movie and which starred the same people, however, in the series the vampire babysitter is joined by her unearthly creatures, while Atticus is joined by his friends in this battle against the monsters.

The series won three awards and was nominated for three others. In 2013, Atticus played Caleb in two episodes of the medical drama series “Hard Rock Medical”, starring Angela Asher and Rachelle Casseus, and which follows a student who is attending the medical school Hard Rock Medical; the series received good reviews.

The following year saw Atticus guest star as Mickey Hess in three episodes of the critically acclaimed black comedy crime series “Fargo”, which is about the strange events happening in Fargo in North Dakota – the series has been airing since 2014, and has won 59 awards including three Golden Globes, while it’s been nominated for 210 other awards. In 2015, he played the lead character Andrew Shinky in the comedy series “Young Drunk Punk” which also starred Tim Carlson and Tracy Ryan, and is about a punk teenager growing up in the ‘80s. The series was nominated for 10 awards.

In 2016, Atticus appeared as Garth in four episodes of the comedy series “Second Jen” while some of his latest roles in TV series have been in the space adventure drama “”Killjoys” in which he played the supporting character Pippin Foster from 2017 to 2019, the American science fiction series “The Expanse” in which he portrayed Ensign Sinopoli in the episodes “Reload” and “Triple Point” in 2018, and the mockumentary series “New Eden” in which he voiced Travis in two episodes in 2020.

Atticus portrayed Gabe in the Canadian/American teen drama movie “Radio Rebel” in 2012, which starred Debby Ryan, Sarena Parmar and Adam DiMarco, and which is about Tara who is a DJ and who has a big secret. The film was awarded a Humanitas Prize in the Children’s Live-Action Category.

The following year saw him portray the main character Wookie in the family comedy film “Bunks”, which also starred Dylan Schmid and Aidan Shipley, and follows two brothers who tricked people into letting them attend a summer camp; it was nominated for four awards. In the same year, Atticus played Graydon in the science fiction horror movie “The Colony”, directed and written by Jeff Renfroe and which starred Kevin Zegers and Laurence Fishburne, while it won a Grand Prize of European Fantasy Film in Silver for Official Fantastic Panorama Selection at Sitges – Catalonian International Film Festival. In 2014, Atticus played Lyes in the drama movie “What We Have”, directed and written by Maxime Desmons who also played the lead character, while the film also starred Roberta Maxwell and Jean-Michel Le Gal; it’s about Maurice who can’t adjust to his new town in Northern Canada.

Some of Atticus’ latest roles in movies have been in the 2015 drama “Stonewall” in which he portrayed the supporting character Matt, the horror thriller film “Darker Than Night” (also known as “Blindsided”) in which he played one of the lead characters Tom in 2018, and the action science fiction film “Riot Girls”,  as the supporting character Cracker in 2019.

Love life and girlfriends

Atticus has been keeping details of his love life hidden from the media’s attention, although it’s believed that he was in a romantic relationship with his friend Sarah from 2015 to 2018. The two met at a party and Atticus went on to upload several pictures of them together onto his Instagram account, however, they apparently broke up in the summer of 2018, as Atticus stopped uploading pictures with Sarah around that time.

There are rumors circulating the internet that he is in a relationship with his girlfriend named Ana, who is also his best friend, and the two could have been seen attending many events together, however, as none of these rumors have been confirmed, Atticus currently appears to be single, he hasn’t married, and doesn’t have children.
