She would also be the second woman to head a branch of the US military after Coast Guard chief Admiral Linda Fagan, who was also nominated by Biden last year.
In a statement, the US president highlighted her 38 years of experience, saying: “Throughout her career, Admiral Franchetti has demonstrated extensive expertise in both the operational and policy arenas.”
President Biden also acknowledged that Franchetti was the second woman to be promoted to four-star admiral in the United States Navy.
